Oster 5838 ExpressBake

2-Pound Programmable Breadmaker

Sometimes you need to savor the simple things in life–a warm, freshly baked loaf of bread is a great place to start. Fill your kitchen with the welcoming aroma of baking bread with help from this easy-to-use Oster 5838 ExpressBake programmable breadmaker. The countertop unit makes a wide variety of delectable, homemade loaves–no trip to the bakery necessary.

From White to Whole Wheat–and Everything in Between

Whether you’re a beginner or a baking connoisseur, easily bake an assortment of favorites using the freshest ingredients–a nice alternative to store-bought bread that often comes loaded with preservatives. The ExpressBake breadmaker makes it possible to provide family and friends with delicious, nutritious baked goods–everything from cinnamon-raisin bread for breakfast, whole-wheat bread to slice up for sandwiches, and sweet bread to enjoy with that next coffee break to rustic dinner rolls or hearty rosemary or olive bread to serve with soup.

A Few Simple Steps

A basic bread recipe proves to be a snap with the ExpressBake breadmaker. Just add the measured ingredients (liquid, then dry, then yeast) to the removable baking pan, then gently snap the baking pan into the bread maker, and lower the lid. With the press of a few buttons, the machine takes it from there, baking a 1-1/2-pound or 2-pound rectangular-shaped loaf of bread to delicious perfection. Its automatic keep-warm setting will keep the bread warm for up to an hour, though enjoying it right away is recommended.

Easy 3-Step Programming

The breadmaker’s user-friendly easy-access push-button control panel ensures ease of use. Choose from three crust colors (light, medium, or dark) and eight bread settings, which include Basic, French, Sweet, 58-minute ExpressBake (bakes a 2-pound loaf in less than an hour), 80-minute ExpressBake, Whole Wheat, Dough/Pasta, and Bake (for jams and marmalades).

Handy indicator lights, a digital display, and up/down arrows for adjusting the time provide added convenience, and a Start/Stop button turns the unit on and off. Best of all, the versatile breadmaker’s 13-hour delay timer means bread can be fully baked and ready to enjoy when you roll out of bed in the morning or when you get home after a long day at the office.

Thoughtfully Designed

Take a peak without disrupting the baking process thanks to the unit’s see-through glass viewing window. The breadmaker also comes with cool-touch housing for safety, while a nonstick surface on the aluminum bread pan ensures baked bread slides out easily.

The ExpressBake programmable breadmaker makes a thoughtful gift idea for newlyweds, new homeowners, or for anyone who enjoys wholesome, flavorful, homemade bread. A user manual comes included, complete with helpful instructions, tips, and enticing recipes for bread like Italian herb, cottage cheese and chive, and apple walnut, as well as recipes for coffee cake, pizza crust, pasta, and more.

Keith Daly says:

Simplicity and a good loaf of bread. I have owned and used this breadmaker for 5 years now and there is no reason to get another one. The best part is it comes out with a loaf of bread that looks like a loaf of bread, not some tube of baked stuff.

Only one complaint I have only one complaint about this machine: the bread is so good that I am averaging about one loaf every day during the week and about 3-4 loaves every weekend because we go through it so quickly, and there are only two of us! (Of course, we have guests who also eat it!) I have a suggestion, though: make up the dry ingredients (except for the yeast) ahead of time by measuring out the flour, salt and sugar and put into a zipper bag, labelling it as to which kind of bread it is. (We make…

My first bread machine – it was more than I had hoped for I am very pleased with this machine. I followed the extremely simple instructions and made a perfect loaf of bread the first time. The recipe book that came with the machine was too limiting for me so I bought two other bread machine cook books. The “Better Homes and Gardens Biggest Book of Bread Machine Recipes” is fantastic. I have learned a great deal about this machine: (1) using exact ingredients is critical (2) always add ingredients in the order suggested (3) the loaves come out of…
